The Rise
-
Bellwether and Plymouth Housing came together to create Blake House/The Rise on Madison. Seattle's first affordable housing high rise in over 50 years provides 362 new homes! We're thrilled to have provided ESDS coordination for this innovative project.
Plymouth’s Blake House provides supportive housing for seniors transitioning from homelessness and Bellwether’s The Rise provides family and workforce housing in the First Hill community. With close proximity to transit, healthcare facilities, Seattle University, and grocery stores and restaurants, it will foster walkability, diversity, and community building. The building has wonderful daylighting, thoughtful design with an emphasis on occupant health and accessibility, and an incredible rooftop terrace with views of the Sound and the mountains.
As Evergreen Coordinator, one challenge was to streamline and coordinate documenting two separately funded projects in a single building. We worked with the design and construction teams to facilitate the integrative process in the Evergreen Sustainable Development Standard, Washington’s affordable housing certification program. Bellwether and Plymouth have consistently incorporated many ESDS requirements and credits into their developer’s standard which helps the team meet the requirements from early design development. Heat pump water heaters and an extensive solar panel installation were significant new energy and carbon minimization strategies. Planted terraces and green roofs including a resident gardening area will minimize heat island, help manage stormwater and bring access to nature to residents.
